We Spent 8 Billion Old Cedis On This Year's 3Music Awards

The CEO of 3Music Awards, Sadiq Abdulai Abu has revealed that his outfit spent a whopping ₵800,00 (8Billion old cedis) to host the third edition of the annual awards show which was fraught with controversies after Shatta Wale emerged the overall winner with 11-awards.

He revealed that even though the amount sounds unbelievable, the processes leading up to the awards makes it an undeniable truth. Sadiq told Zionfelix that before the awards came off, they had to put together a research team who worked for over two months with the aim of gathering the needed data to do the categorization for the various awards.

The entertainment critic added that the board who deliberates on most of the issues are top people in the industry who ordinarily cannot be paid but they usually show them some gratitude by offering something small for their fuel prices anytime they came for board meetings.

Sadiq also stated that awards plaques which they bring in from China also cost at least $220 dollars per one and always they order for not less than forty copies.

The maiden edition of the show even faced some financial challenge after it emerged that Joselyn Dumas was not paid for hosting the show, coupled with other financial hiccup that nearly derailed the plan to host subsequent ones.

The second edition of the 3Music Awards went down on March 30 at the Fantasy Dome in Accra.

We Are Not In Competition With Small Boys Like Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie - Akatakyie

Ghanaian hiplife duo, Akatakyie have said that they are back and ready to take off from where they left behind.

According to them, even though, there’s a new crop of musicians ruling the airwaves, they aren’t a bit scared.

The “Esi” hit makers said this while speaking with Kojo Boateng and AJ Sarpong on ‘Saturday Live’ on Citi TV.

“The small boys are trying. I will mention names like Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Kofi Kinaata, Sarkodie and others. These are the few musicians who can give us competition. Apart from them, it is only P Square we are scared of,” they said.

Explaining why they took a long break from music, the duo explained that they faced some financial challenges at their record label.

“It was financial situation. We were working with Soul Record and he decided to go low for some time. And we needed someone to push us. We did not want to flop on the way because we have a record to protect. We just didn’t want to release songs for releasing sake,” they added.

Akatakyie is made up of two brothers: Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Kobby Culture) and Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning (King Pharaoh).

They came out with their maiden album ‘Odo Esisi Me’ in 1999 which won them the Best Hiplife Song award in the maiden edition of the Ghana Music Awards organized in 2000.

They have had hits like ‘Ghana Mmaa’, ‘Agoo’, ‘Odo Esikyire’, ‘Sinsima’, ‘Esi’, ‘Meyare’, ‘Masan Aba’, ‘Oman Ba Pa’, ‘Odo Ye Musu Anaa’, and ‘Siesie Obaa no’ featuring Okyeame Kwame.
